New Beginnings

It has been seven years since I made a post on the old blog, chapinmeetshartsville.blogspot.com . That one consisted mostly of Chloe at age 2 and under - newly weds.  I decided it was time to start a new family blog, as we begin a new chapter in our lives.  It won't be all about homeschooling, but I will include our progress - especially when Chloe and Lukie have a project to share.  :)

This past week we started school.  It was great!  Chloe and Luke LOVED it.

We are required to do English, Writing, and Math everyday.  Social Studies (which includes church history) and Science can be done at a different frequency.  I can do one or the other on a daily rotation, one week for science then one week for social studies (alternating), or I can do one every day for an entire nine weeks, then switch to the other the next nine weeks.  I am seeing what works best for us, but I like the first two options best.  I am really excited about all the learning and growing that will happen in our home.

We have only been schooling for a week, but already, I love how our schedule works.  My kids have been happier (unlike when they came home from public school, tired and grumpy).  We start our morning by getting dressed, making our beds, and saying our prayers.  After breakfast, we have what I call "Edwards Seminary."  We read scriptures, sing a song, write in our scripture journals, and end with a prayer.  It has been amazing to talk about the gospel before we start our day.  Then, we say the pledge of allegiance, observe a moment of silence, and cover the daily curriculum of English, Writing, Math, and Social Studies (or Science).  When we are done, I plug our time into a log that Jared made for me on a shared Google spreadsheet.  We usually start between 7:30 - 8:00 and end between 10:30 - 11:30.

Check out these awesome shelves Jared made me!

Luke is ready to start school!  He is so cool!!
Chloe showing off her shelf!  She is so cute!  *Notice her hair is down.  We would have never done that for public school!  Haha...she was so excited about that!

Chloe is working hard on her handwriting.
Luke did a science project on how to make square bubbles!  It didn't work (need to try different bubble solution), but we had fun!
 Posing before we blew bubbles!

Writing in their scripture journals.
Saying the Pledge of Allegiance,

~Quote of the Week~

Luke while saying his prayers.

"Home-school is the best school I have ever been to."

He has been praying for a while for me to be a good home-school teacher.

"Mom is already a great home-school teacher"
